Bilingual Jukai Ceremony at City Center

On February 25, at City Center, six people received the precepts through SFZC’s Central Abbot Ed Sattizahn and Sozan Miglioli in a jukai/lay initiation ceremony. The jukai was held in English and Spanish, so it was accessible for both the initiates and the assembly.

El jukai se celebró en inglés y español, por lo que fue accesible tanto para los iniciados como para la asamblea.

Preparations for Fire Season at Tassajara 

In anticipation of fire season, SFZC’s Safety Officer Kogen Keith has been working with others at Tassajara to prepare burn piles of fuel to prevent its availability to natural fires: “Hopefully, one day good fire can be reintroduced to the land here, coordinated with local cultural burning practices; these small burn piles are a start.”

“I came to SFZC in 2015 and three years later, in 2018, I took Jukai (lay initiation) after sewing my blue rakusu. Since then, I have been training with Tim Wicks to become a sewing teacher and help others in the process of sewing Buddha’s robes. This is a fundamental part of our practice that connects us with our teachers and ancestors since the time of the Buddha.”

  1. Wow! I had no idea that the article (newsletter) multiplied! Anyway, I would so love to go to Tassajara again, but with you! I would love to do anything with you! I would also like to stay in the same little house there as I did before, but w/o the nasty bitch who was assigned to the same place as myself! She was only there for the hot spas, not spiritual enlightenment, so no wonder! Ugh! I got out of there as fast as I could! I left a Buddha head plaque I had made and brought to leave there. Of course, that woman was so awful, she may have stolen it!
