I remember speaking with GS's assistant on the phone and he was telling me how jealous of me he was because GS read the things I wrote to him, even my Haikus and was motivated to write back to me. He said he doesn't read anyone's work sent to him. I am sure it was because of the nice email I wrote to him about you and about himself first. He said he could not even get him to read his poetry. It made me feel bad, because the man really seemed hurt.
It was kind of ironic, because I got his phone call while I was sitting broken down in my car on the way to Tassajara, waiting for the tow/repair truck. Thank goodness it was an easy repair. It was sure a lot easier than the drive there! That was pretty rough! A monk complimented me on my driving ability and he said he was a former race car driver! I told him how I got through the sandy spots where the car's tires were spinning out and I toggled between the clutch and the gas pedal and got through it. I also stopped at various spots and put up the rock piles to encourage drivers that they were on the right track and not to get discouraged. I drove that drive twice in a day! My driver said he did not think he could do it, so I drive him back and got a shuttle. It was an unusual trip! My friends there turned out to be a female nun from China and her daughter. They really liked me because I bought them both natural mosquito spray repellent, from the gift store (I got the last they had) because the mosquitos there were god awful annoying! Otherwise it was lovely there, but shit, it was awful with those bugs! The mother followed me everywhere; it was so sweet. Very nice people. It is too bad my roommate thought of me as an interloper and made me feel so unwelcome! I left early because of her! I would have camped out, had I been prepared. But she complained about my every move! I did leave one of my Buddha heads I had made, sitting on the dresser. I hope she didn't steal it. She was there to sit in the hot springs water; I was there for contemplation and spiritual awakening. Also, my heart was breaking over my love for you.
